Principal’s Message
Dear Farmhouse Montessori Families,
Parent Social
Attending the recent Parent Mixer/Parent Information session was a delight. We look forward to welcoming you to more events at both campuses in the coming Terms.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
I hope that you have enjoyed the opportunity to attend the Parent-Teacher Conferences this Term. This is a reminder that each Term, there is an opportunity for formal feedback from your child’s teacher with Parent-Teacher Conferences in Terms 1 and 3 and Semester Reports, which are issued in Terms 2 and 4.
Interaction with your child’s teacher does not have to wait for a formal conference, and you are welcome to schedule a meeting via the office or by email. Communication with our families is a key component of supporting collaboration between home and school. Thank you also to families for providing valuable feedback to the school during the conferences.
Owna
To help streamline school communication, Farmhouse Montessori School will launch a new app, OWNA, In Term 2. At the Preschool campus, the OWNA app will be used to sign in and out your child each day. Across both campuses, the app will be used to promote school events, distribute the newsletter, and eventually allow parents to submit forms online. OWNA is an Australian company, and parent information sessions will be provided in Term 2 on how to use the app.
Building 5 Progress Update
Building works have been underway for our new Primary School campus at the North Head Sanctuary in Manly. There has been continued interest within the community to see updates in early Term 2 and to visit the new campus once the building works are complete. In the meantime, if you haven’t already done so, plan a visit to the North Head Sanctuary in Manly to enjoy a bushwalk, have a picnic, and enjoy the views of the Harbour.
Thank you
A special thanks go out to all of our administration staff and educators at Farmhouse Montessori School for all their work behind the scenes for a successful Term 1.
Have a safe and wonderful holiday!
Kind regards,
Alia James | Principal
DEPUTY PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Dear Farmhouse Montessori Families,
Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting the Parent Social Mixer and the Parent Information Session that brought our community together. We extend our heartfelt gratitude for your enthusiastic participation.
The Social Mixer provided an opportunity for parents and staff to connect in a relaxed and informal manner in our beautiful outdoor classroom which was transformed by our dedicated team.
Following the social mixer, we gathered for the Parent Information Session on the topic of Montessori at Home, where we explored the importance of fostering a Montessori environment beyond the classroom.
Our educators shared practical tips, strategies, and creative ideas for integrating Montessori principles into our daily lives, especially in the area of Practical Life.
Here are a few pictures of the event. We would love to see you at our future events.
We wish you a lovely holiday. Look forward to seeing you at the commencement of Term 2.
Harshitha Ravikumar | Deputy Principal
Parent Mixer Evening
Thank you for joining our social mixer and parent information evening.
Teddy and a Tin - helping friends in need
Thank you to all of our preschool students who brought in tins for friends in need. It was a beautiful lesson once again in fostering generous hearts.
ELOUERA | Stage 1 Infant Community
The Elouera children enjoy making bread as part of their daily routine. As the holidays approach, it’s something you might like to try at home! we use a very simple recipe of 2 teaspoons of yeast, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of oil, 2 cups of warm water + flour (not measured just enough so your dough isn’t sticky!)
add the yeast, salt, oil and water and whisk. slowly add in the flour until your dough isn’t sticky but isn’t dry. turn onto a floured surface and knead. allow to rise for 1.5 hours, put into bread tin, allow to rise for 1 hour and bake.
some tips to help you try at home:
- set up the environment to enable success– have everything pre-measured in separate bowls/cups and laid out from left to right so your child can independently pour them in.
- use less language & model silently– allow the child’s absorbent mind to fully take in the demonstration without having to split their concentration between language and hand movements.
- appreciate the child’s work! – Be friendly with mistakes and mess! don’t be tempted to ‘correct’ your child’s work, even if your bread doesn’t work first time the process is where the learning happens and is far more important!
— Corinne, Anniebelle, Nina, Sarah.
BURBANGANA | Stage 1
This week at Burbangana, our little learners delved deep into the exciting world of numeracy, language and geography. Through golden beads, our children engaged in activities aimed at recognizing and identifying different quantities or units. By developing muscle memory, they gained a deeper insight into the complex world of the decimal system. Not only did they visually and physically categorize the materials, but they also experienced tactile and visual stimulation, contributing to a holistic learning experience.
We also dedicated time to enhancing language skills through engaging activities such as the three-part card. Our children delighted in expanding their vocabulary and linguistic abilities, fostering communication and expression. Furthermore, we embarked on an exciting journey across the Australian map, tracing different states. Not only did this activity enhance our geographical knowledge, but it also honed our fine motor skills and spatial awareness.
We are immensely proud of our Burbangana children for their enthusiasm, curiosity, and dedication to learning. Each day brings new discoveries and achievements, and we are honored to be a part of their educational journey.
— Kathleen, Teresa, Katherine and Yuko.
COOINDA | Stage 1
We have celebrated the spirit of being a community this term. We started by meeting new friends and learning about each other have come to the end of the term by building some strong relationships. The collaborative events and activities have been fun, engaging, and meaningful to the children. The Teddy Bear picnic was surely a highlight this week. Thank you for all the kind donation
The aspect of Montessori where children show a deep sense of belonging has been very evident in the way they have learned to look after their environment and each other.
We wish everyone a restful break and look forward to Term 2.
—Harshitha, Catalina, Jo, Rachel, Claire & Angela.
AMAROO | OUTDOOR CLASSROOM
This term there have been so many beautiful examples of focus and concentration as children challenged themselves on a daily basis. They have refined and learnt new skills, shown perseverance and the pure joy of achievement. They have shown kindness and offered encouragement to each other. As an educator these are the character traits that warm our hearts as we witness the children become engaged in their work.
“The essential thing is to arouse such an interest that it engages the child’s whole personality” Maria Montessori, The Absorbent Mind
Enjoy time together in the holidays, let’s see what sparks everyone’s interest next term!

AIKYA | Stage 2
Greetings from Aikya!
As we near the end of another enriching term at Aikya, we are thrilled to share with you the vibrant happenings of the past two weeks in our beloved Montessori classroom.
Montessori 5th Great Story: The Story of Numbers
In line with our exploration of the fascinating history of mathematics, we embarked on a journey through time with the Montessori 5th Great Story: The Story of Numbers. Delving into the origins of our number system and tracing its evolution throughout history, our students engaged in thought-provoking discussions and hands-on activities, igniting a deep appreciation for the beauty and significance of mathematics in our world.
Mathematics Marvels
Our classroom has been buzzing with excitement as students immersed themselves in various maths memorisation games and explored a plethora of Montessori mathematics materials. From dynamic group activities to individual challenges, our students have been honing their mathematical skills with enthusiasm and determination.
Excursion to the Australian Museum
A highlight of our recent adventures was our unforgettable excursion to the Australian Museum. With awe and wonder, our students delved into workshops on Dinosaurs, Minibeasts, and Earth’s Minerals, immersing themselves in hands-on learning experiences that sparked curiosity and ignited imaginations. The highlight of the day was our exploration of the Ramses exhibition, where we marvelled at the treasures of ancient Egypt, drawing connections to our history studies and the Montessori Great Lessons.
Language Arts Brilliance
In the realm of language arts, our students have been showcasing their growing proficiency with pride and confidence. From presenting their written works, including narratives and persuasive texts, to mastering key word outline work, our students have been blossoming into expressive and articulate communicators. It has been a joyous sight to witness some students take the stage and read aloud to the whole class, sharing stories and insights with their peers.
Gratitude and Appreciation
As we bid farewell to another term filled with growth, exploration, and discovery, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our wonderful students for their hard work, curiosity, and boundless enthusiasm. We also extend our deepest appreciation to our families for their unwavering support and partnership in nurturing the minds and hearts of our Aikya community.
Wishing you all a restful and rejuvenating break.
Warmest regards,
—Toby, and Chris and Amy Louise & Ella.
YANI | Stage 3
Over the past two weeks, our classroom Yani has been buzzing with learning opportunities. One highlight was the National Ride 2 School Day on Friday the 22nd of March, which provided a great experience for the children. We were honored to receive the visit of Senior Constable Bill Alexander & Sergeant Brett Barnes, two police officers who shared their expertise on cycling safety. They organized engaging obstacle courses for the children to ride their bikes through, while imparting essential tips on bike safety. It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn firsthand from professionals in a fun and interactive setting.
Another enriching experience for the children was our visit to the Australian Museum, where they embarked on a journey of discovery through guided workshops. One workshop focused on rocks and minerals, allowing the children to explore geological wonders through hands-on activities. In another workshop, they delved into the fascinating world of invertebrates, learning about these creatures’ unique characteristics and habitats. The children were captivated by the opportunity to engage directly with professionals in these fields, deepening their understanding while having fun.
In addition to these workshops, the children had the privilege of visiting the Ramses II exhibition. Stepping back in time to ancient Egypt, they immersed themselves in the rich history and culture of this fascinating civilization. From observing ancient artifacts to learning about Ramses’ significant influence, the exhibition sparked the children’s imaginations and provided a captivating glimpse into the past.
We would like to with everybody a happy school break filled with quality time spent with family and friends and we are looking forward to many more adventures in term 2. See you all soon!
—Laura, Thomas, Ella & Amy Louise.
EVERGREEN | Music
Primary Campus
This week, we finished up the term of drumming. The students revised the different skills and genres learned throughout the term such as rock beats, swing vs even rhythms and clave rhythms. The drum term ended with the students learning about surf rock and how to play the surf rock beat to Wipeout as well as some of their favorite rhythm games such as ‘Don’t Clap This One Back’.
Mixed Ensemble
We had a super successful combined session last week and started to lock in all of the individual parts for Burning Down The House.
Sounding great. Last session for the term is this Friday.
Preschool Campus
We’ve had an absolute blast every Tuesday and Thursday.
From clapping rhythms, to learning about ‘loud’ and ‘soft’ sounds.
A crowd favourite across the groups is a song called ‘Becoming’ – it talks about baby animals and what they become when they grow up!
Here’s a link to the spotify track if you want to add it to your playlist at home.
We hope everyone has a safe holiday break, and we’ll see you in the new term.
